Maintenance Officer: Two Year Fixed Term

 

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL VACANCY: MAINTENANCE OFFICER: TWO-YEAR FIXED TERM

CEF is a Schedule 2 state owned diversified energy company reporting to the Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources. The Mandate of CEF is to contribute to the security of energy supply of South Africa and the Region through exploration, acquisition, development, marketing and strategic partnership. It is derived from the CEF Act (No 38 of 1977) and the Ministerial directives issued thereafter.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Officer is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and facilities are properly maintained, functional, and safe and involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Matric and National Certificate (NQF level 3) in Building/Civil Construction or equivalent qualification.
  • 1-2 years' experience in a similar role (e.g. maintenance officer/Handyman)
  • Trade Test Certificate in Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering
  • National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Building/ Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification will serve as an added advantage.

  • Basic knowledge of maintenance management systems for logging and tracking maintenance activities

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

Preventative and corrective maintenance

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment, machinery, and facility systems to prevent breakdowns and extend asset life.
  • Respond to equipment malfunctions and breakdowns promptly, diagnosing issues and performing necessary repairs.

Safety and compliance

  • Ensure all maintenance work adheres to safety protocols, regulations, and corporate standards to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Perform safety checks and ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations related to equipment and facility operations

Equipment and facility upkeep

  • Maintain facility infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural elements, ensuring they meet operational and safety standards.
  • Ensure that critical spare parts, tools, and supplies are organized, available, and replenished as needed to reduce downtime.

Record keeping and reporting

  • Document all maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and replacements, to keep an accurate maintenance history.
  • Generate and submit maintenance reports, highlighting issues, completed work, and recommended improvements to the Group Facilities Manager

Carrying out repairs and maintenance

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and technical issues with equipment, recommending cost effective repair solutions.
  • Use technical manuals, schematics, and tools causes of malfunctions and carry out efficient repairs 
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers when specialised maintenance or repairs are needed.

Emergency Response

  • Be available to respond to emergency breakdowns or issues outside of regular working hours, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Assist in developing and executing emergency response plans related to facility or equipment failures.
